Del Mar collection from Restoration Hardware
If you are planning to create an outdoor living room this year – this is the time! Many retail furniture companies (Restoration Hardware and Crate&Barrel, to name just a few) offer pre-season discounts of as much as 15%.
I have just met with one of my favorite clients and we spent an hour talking about her plans for outdoor living this summer. We created a living room, dining room, kitchen and lounging area using her existing deck and patio.
We designed a seating plan with a large sofa and 2 chairs complete with an ottoman and a coffee table. We mapped out the locations and colors for all her planters – they are going to serve as natural “walls” to separate the dining area from the cooking and sitting areas. Not to steal business from landscape designers, but I recommended the plants that I successfully used in my own patio and garden design – I know she is going to love them!
We also designed a simple solution for sun protection as even her awning can’t handle the late afternoon sun on a really hot day – we are going with custom made poles, rods and drapery that is going to create additional “privacy wall”.
Moving on from the deck to the patio area, we mapped out the placement for her reading chaise lounge, chairs placed across from the hot tub and even a coffee table that doubles as a fire pit. All complete with outdoor rugs and lighting.
It is a great feeling when you can pull together a room in just couple of hours because you know someone so well after working with them for several years!
