Best smoked salmon? Scottish! Best whisky? Scottish! Best tartans? Scottish, of course!
When it comes to Scottish fabrics, quality is undeniable. And it comes in a rainbow of colors. And it’s not just tartans but also tweeds, lace, leather, boucle. You name it – they make it. No wonder some of the best fashion houses get their wools from Scotland: Chanel, Ralph Lauren just to name a few. And those J.Crew wool suiting collections we grew to love? Scottish wool!
But why am I Scotland obsessed all of the sudden? Yesterday I attended a presentation called Scottish Style – a chat about design, travel and beautiful fabrics. Presented by Traditional Home magazine at D&D Building, with Ronda Carman of my favorite blog All The Best, it was a great showcase of what happens when hundreds years of tradition get a cool update. We saw chairs (frames by Edward Ferrell/Lewis Mittman) designed by 5 prominent interior designers using contemporary Scottish fabrics. They were fun and fresh, each in its own unique way.
